Cork! It’s time to get jazzy with it!

Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over! Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is back this October bank holiday! Experience live music as the jazz performers come back to the stages once again! Your friends at Velo Coffee Roasters want to share in the excitement and celebrate with you (responsibly, of course!) We have a cool, delicious, jazzy recipe to share with you this week!

Brew yourself a nice cup of coffee (maybe put a little to the side…) and have a look at this weekend's “must have” cocktail: JAZZED UP! This drink was created by Pamela Wiznitzer, one of New York’s top bartenders. She takes some Frapin Cognac and then just sort of jazzes it up a bit!

This recipe is really simple and easy to make. One good thing about this recipe is that you can tweak it a little bit to fit your taste preferences! We are going to give you the standard Jazzed Up recipe, and you can feel free to customise it from there!

Ingredients:

  • 45mls (1.5oz) Frapin 1270 (or your preferred Cognac)
  • 15mls (.5oz) Triple Sec
  • 15mls (.5oz) Amaro
  • 30mls (1oz) Strong brewed Velo coffee (cooled to room temperature)
  • 15mls (.5oz) Demerara (Simple) Syrup

For this recipe, we like to use some of our award-winning coffees like our Morning Fixie! This coffee has just won 3-stars at the Great Taste Awards this year. With flavours of dark chocolate and bold fruit, it will certainly give you some pep in your step for jazz weekend! Our El Salvador Fincas Las Mercedes is another great coffee to use! This coffee has just won silver at the Blas na hÉireann food awards. Our El Salvador has flavours of milk chocolate, shortbread, and a hint of orange to add some extra sweetness to your cocktail!

Once you have your ingredients measured and ready to go, combine all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, and shake vigorously. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass over ice, and garnish the glass with an orange slice for a little something extra and refreshing!

There you have it! Now go get jazzy in Cork city this jazz weekend! As always, please remember to drink responsibly.

Happy Jazzing!
