Highlighting Women Making A Difference In Coffee!
It’s International Women’s Day! International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the historical, cultural, and political achievements of women. We are celebrating women everywhere today, especially those in the coffee community! The impact of women in the coffee industry has always been felt and understood, so we want to shout it from the rooftops. So, sit back, relax, brew a cup of Velo, and let us tell you about one of our coffee farmers.
We have recently started working with a coffee farm in Costa Rica, Finca Casa de Piedra. We have three delicious coffees that come from this farm; Finca Casa de Piedra Pacamara, Finca Casa de Piedra Natural, and Finca Casa de Piedra Natural Gesha. The coffee farm, Finca Casa de Piedra, is one of two coffee farms that are operated by Café Directo. Café Directo is a family business founded in 2013 by Jennifer Arias, and her father, Gerardo Arias.
Jennifer has a background in International Business that allows her to excel in International Trade and Sales at Café Directo. The work that Jennifer and her father do ensures that Café Directo can help their coffee workers to have access to better quality services such as housing, and permanent jobs during the coffee seasons. Jennifer also works to ensure that Café Directo is environmentally friendly by largely reducing pesticides to grow healthier coffee and improve soil. A majority of their coffee farm is under shade trees which is the home of many animals and natural springs. This allows the environment and wildlife around them to continue to prosper.
Women like Jennifer are striving every single day to make sustainable and environmentally conscious decisions for the coffee industry. Jennifer is passionate about what she does each day, and will continue striving to produce delicious coffees, while making the best choices for the environment. Jennifer, thank you for all that you do!
